About Alexandra CunninghamAllie is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, born and raised in Washington, D.C. She earned her BA in Psychology and Master of Science in Nursing in Women’s Health at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (Go Dores!). While at Vanderbilt, she traveled to China and studied traditional Chinese Medicine. During her masters program, the main focus of her research was on HIV positive women and the decision making process surrounding pregnancy. Prior to joining the team at Virginia Family Medicine, Allie worked in two different women’s health practices in the DMV area—a maternal fetal medicine practice in Silver Spring, MD and an OBGYN practice in Arlington, VA. Allie is excited to bring her women’s health background to Virginia Family Medicine. Allie provides gynecological care to women at all stages of life—adolescence through menopause. Her clinical interests include contraceptive counseling, LARC (IUD and Nexplanon) insertions, assessment and treatment of menstrual irregularities, family planning and preconception counseling, and the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and vaginal infections. Allie is passionate about providing women with safe, evidence-based, and personalized care. One aspect of her job that she enjoys the most is building relationships with her patients and engaging in shared decision-making to optimize their health, as well as educating women about their bodies so that they can make informed healthcare decisions.show more
